BMW, Rover Car Showroom - Kuwait
This car showroom is considered to be the largest of its kind in the Middle East, totaling in building area at 30,000sqm located on 22,500sqm site.
At the forefront overlooking the main street, the car showroom is located and is used to showcase BMW, Mini, Landrover, and Rolls- Royce cars.
The project also includes the major workshop which hosts 86 working bays, the main spare parts storage and spare parts retail shop. The mezzanine floor of the showroom hovers freely over the cars displays and functions as the Al-Ghanim Headquarters office.
The special feature of the building's architecture is the two-directionally curved roof stabilized by three cones. Both far ends of this roof are designed as 15 meters cantilevered covered by metal grating and serve to shade East and West elevations.
The car exhibition areas are arranged in two levels, interconnected by a pair of helical ramps winding around cones. Visitors can easy move between levels of the showroom since the system of ramps eliminates the necessity to use staircases. The interior architecture capitalizes on aesthetics of clean and crisp engineering minimizing use of finishing materials and cost of maintenance. The indirect illumination uses suspended mirrors and under-floor distributed air-condition systems adds value to this successful design.
