Oil Sector Complex - Kuwait
In 1995, SSH in association with Arthur Erickson Architectural Corporation of Canada was appointed to design the new headquarters complex for Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and the Ministry of Oil.
The development of the Oil Sector Complex has completely transformed a derelict and contaminated waterfront site into adramatic and memorable landmark with exciting images from many viewpoints in Kuwait City. The concave facades of the lens shaped building are fully glazed from floor to ceiling, and cantilevered fritted curved glass screens provide sun protection. These facades provide extensive views out over Kuwait Bay.
By contrast, the triangular masses, which generally face south, are clad in limestone with deeply recessed shaded window openings.sea. A series of dramatic tensile fabric sails on top of the car parking structure evoke images of the sails of the dhows on Kuwait Bay.
