SSH partnered with the College of Architecture at Kuwait University to host The Fifteenth Conference of the International Association for the Study of Traditional Environments (IASTE).
Kuwait University competed with two international highly accredited Colleges to win the proposal to host this conference and received the trust of the association’s members which is testament to the capabilities of the organising committee in running the 15th version of this event with the highest international standards.
The IASTE was established by the University of California and the University of Oregon at Berkeley in April 1988 as an interdisciplinary forum to enable scholars from various disciplines and countries to exchange ideas, discuss methods and approaches, and share findings.
The conference, held in Kuwait City, explored the role tradition plays in legitimating practices that produce place-based or placeless built environments.
As in past IASTE conferences, scholars and practitioners from architecture, architectural history, art history, anthropology, archaeology, folklore, geography, history, planning, sociology, urban studies, and related disciplines attended to discuss building legitimacy through tradition.
The opening ceremony took place on the 17th of December at the Marina Hotel and was attended by SSH’s Chairman Omran Hayat, Executive Partner Sadoon Al Essa and General Manager Khalil Alonaizi.
SSH is proud to be part of this industry leading international event and we look forward to continue to support the Kuwait University in realising its vision to advance knowledge in the field of Architecture in Kuwait by educating Kuwaiti architects and developing research into the built environment of Kuwait.
