Barry Landrum, Associate Director in Design Management, discusses Middle East healthcare and highlights the role SSH plays in leading innovation and design of new hospital buildings across the region in an article for the February issue of Construction Business News.
“Recent developments in the Middle East suggest that countries are enhancing their capacity, making the GCC a hub for healthcare,” Barry writes. “SSH hold a growing portfolio of prestigious healthcare projects and is currently working on the largest specialist paediatrics hospital in the world.”
Referring to the Kuwait Children’s Hospital, the model of care for the hospital has resulted in 792 beds with diagnostic and treatment facilities capable of treating patients from across the region.
Evidence Based Design is employed by SSH in healthcare projects, which incorporates empirical evidence, including artwork, entertainment and nature, to better design healthcare environments. This enables designers to improve patient healing, reduce stress for patients and staff and ultimately results in positive patient outcomes.
Barry summarises that our ultimate goal is to “lead healthcare design into a new digital age of gold-standard healthcare facilities”.
