In a ceremony at SSH’s Kuwait offices on 29 January 2018, the Kuwait Fire Department (KFD) honoured a specialist team from SSH for developing material and delivering training sessions on smoke ventilation design in buildings for KFD trainee HVAC engineers.
The SSH-led training sessions, held from 14-18 January 2018, were hosted by Mohammed Tanveer Taj, Principal Mechanical Engineer and Makram Kataya, Project Mechanical Engineer, with the workshops being organised by Statutory Authority Co-ordinator Reza Aghili. The scope included the theory and principles of smoke ventilation design and system objectives. The workshops also made use of some SSH projects as case studies to demonstrate the particular issues associated with the design of systems in large underground car parks, high-rise buildings and atria.
The workshops were so well received that senior KFD personnel also attended the training sessions.
In appreciation of SSH’s collaboration with the KFD, leading KFD officials representing various governorates of Kuwait held a ceremony for Tanveer, Makram and Reza, presenting them with certificates of appreciation, and presenting Sadoon Al Essa, Executive Partner at SSH, with a plaque for their efforts.
Also in attendance were key SSH personnel: George Abi-Hanna, Managing Director, Kuwait; Khalil Alonaizi, General Manager, Kuwait; Paul Crayford, Engineering Director – Building Design; Jacquelyn Portman, Associate Director – Building Services; and Ahmed Essawi, Statutory Authority Manager.
The success of this first raft of workshops has led to further discussions of collaboration between SSH and the KFD, with advanced regulatory training sessions on the agenda.
