Senior Specification Writer

Job Purpose

The Senior Specification Writer responsible for leading the preparation, coordination, and delivery of project performance specification for multidisciplinary building projects across the GCC region and emerging markets. Producing specification document aligning to the latest CSI MasterFormat classification, familiarity with AIA MasterSpec/ Specpoint principles, and quick adoption of SSH Office Master Specification baseline, tailored to project-specific design intent, GCC authority regulations, international codes and standards, and current industry best practices. The position also supports design teams with technical guidance, product research, and design coordination.

Core Responsibilities

• Preparation, coordination, and management of specification in CSI Master Format 2020 aligned with AIA MasterSpec/ Specpoint principles.
• Proficient in specification writing for full building envelope, shell & core, FoH, BoH, and associated systems. Exposure to landscape materials and specification considered an advantage.
• Ensure specifications are technically robust, coordinated with design drawings, compliant with local and international codes, and authority requirements, aligned with project delivery milestones.
• Align specification to project-specific requirements, GCC authority standards, and client briefs.
• Support the development and maintain SSH Office Master specification.
• Ensure full coordination between drawings, schedules, and specifications.
• Identify missing information in drawings and proactively coordinate with design teams.
• Support post-tender technical clarifications and contractor queries related to specifications.

Skills & Experiences

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Architectural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum 8–12 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years dedicated to specification writing for GCC projects.
• Demonstrated experience preparing full architectural specification packages at SD, DD, and IFC stages.
• Experience on mixed-use, commercial, hospitality, residential, or large-scale developments in GCC preferred.

Core Competencies

• Strong command of CSI Master Format 2020 (including all current updates) and Spec point baseline content, guidelines and principles.
• Demonstrated expertise in architectural specification writing across full building scope.
• Advanced technical knowledge in architectural materials and systems (waterproofing, façade, fire-rated assemblies, flooring, internal and external finishes, roofing, etc).
• Awareness of BIM-compliant Specification structure and content.
• Strong understanding of GCC construction practices.
• Understanding of project sustainability requirements, including integration of LEED, Sidama, Mostadam, GSAS, and regional green building requirements into performance-based specifications.
• High attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Strong coordination and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
• Leadership capability with structured mentoring approach.
