Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre success at International Property Awards
The International Property Awards has announced Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre (ASCC) as winner of the Best Public Service Architecture Arabia Award at its annual ceremony, held in London at The Savoy Hotel on 3 December 2018.
The globally recognised awards celebrate the highest levels of achievement by companies operating in all sectors of the property and real estate industry. An International Property Award is a world-renowned mark of excellence.
This latest accolade adds to the success already achieved by the cultural complex, which was named as Best Public Services Architecture for Kuwait at the Africa & Arabia Property Awards on 11 October 2018, at The Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah Hotel, in Dubai.
As part of the Amiri Diwan of Kuwait’s vision for the country to become a cultural hub for MENA region and beyond, ASCC is a world-class museum district within Kuwait City and is a celebration of Kuwaiti, Islamic and Arab culture and history. Since its inauguration on 5 February 2018, the centre has embraced and showcased the rich diversity of the world’s finest cultural achievements.
“This is a superb double-win for the Amiri Diwan and SSH,” said Sadoon Al Essa, Executive Partner of SSH about the award. “For ASCC to win this prestigious prize not only for Kuwait, but also for the whole Arabia region validates the far-reaching vision the Amiri Diwan had for this project and highlights SSH’s talented project team, who delivered such an inspiring, signature cultural development.”
He added: “The close collaboration between the SSH team and the Amiri Diwan has culminated in this excellent result. We can all be very proud. These awards not only confirm that we both work beautifully together as a unified project team but also ensures and cements our continued partnership.”
Visitors to the ASCC complex can enjoy six distinct experiences, each housed within their own buildings, which are a Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Museum of Islamic History, and Space Museum, as well as a Fine Arts Centre and Theatre. Each building contains an array of permanent and temporary world-class exhibits and artworks.
SSH was appointed by Al Ghanim International as lead architecture and engineering designer on the complex. Working collaboratively with world-leading museum specialists, SSH was able to deliver the ASCC project for the Amiri Diwan to the stringent standards required of world-class public cultural buildings.
