SSH Makes Strong Progress on Jasrah Interchange Upgrade, Bahrain
05/05/2025
Appointed by the Ministry of Works, SSH is proud to be delivering design and supervision services for the Jasrah interchange upgrade – a key initiative enhancing connectivity between Janabiya Highway and Shaik Isa bin Salman Highway in Bahrain.
The new bridge spans a total length of approximately 444 m and features a two-lane carriageway with an overall width of 13 m, including a hard shoulder and concrete barrier. Structurally, the bridge is divided into four units comprising 11 spans, and is constructed using post-tensioned, pre-stressed cast in-situ reinforced concrete. It is supported by 22 piers, two abutments, 10 pile caps, and 74 bored working piles. The bridge bearings are designed to be free-sliding and fixed in the longitudinal and transverse directions, as well as fixed in both directions where required.
The project also includes a 289-metre ramp entry and a 157-metre ramp exit, each with a two-lane carriageway supported by mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) walls. Works further include the diversion and protection of existing utilities, along with the upgrading of approach and departure safety barriers at five existing bridge structures, including Jasrah Interchange, Isa Town (Sehla) Interchange, Bahrain Map Flyover, Wali Al Ahed Flyover, and Um Al Hassam Sitra East South Flyover.
The project is set to be completed by Q3 2025.
