Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway Upgrade
The Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah (SJAS) Highway Upgrade project aims to reduce traffic congestion and delays during peak hours by upgrading the current 1 km of highway to a motorway standard. This responds to the rapid growth in the Kingdom’s population from 1.4 million to an estimated 2.4 million residents by 2030. SJAS forms part of the strategic North-South link, connecting Manama, Sitra Industrial Area, Alba Plant and the Southern Governorate. It will also form part of the Future International Transportation Corridor with the proposed Bahrain-Qatar Causeway.
SSH, as leading consultant and in partnership with Hyder Consulting, is undertaking the engineering consultancy services for the design of the road and bridges as part of the widening and upgrading of the SJAS Highway by the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
The services are divided into three phases:
- Phase One consists of comprehensive traffic and transportation studies for widening and upgrading the highway to an uninterrupted motorway.
- Phase Two includes preliminary and detailed design for the four-lane dual carriageway, pedestrian and vehicular bridges, grade separators, tunnels and underpasses, service roads, and slip lanes.
- Phase Three, subject to award, is for construction implementation and supervision services.
